It’s time for another great year and if your office or association would like to have me back, feel free to call, text, or email me to set something up!  Let’s see if I can beet 2017’s numbers: 120 Dotloop Classes Taught, 2,274 Students, 20 states.  I’m still working on my 50 state goal and looking to train in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming (17 left).  I’m a certified CE instructor in the following states: Oklahoma, Michigan, Georgia, South Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Maryland, Utah, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Washington, Missouri, and Florida.  If you want to attend another class or want to know where I will be, I have posted my calendar online and you can find it here: Carolyn’s Calendar.  I try to keep it updated as much as possible, but sometimes I get behind if I’m really busy, so you can always message me to check in.  Happy Looping!!

2016 Recap & 2017 Tip

It’s now 2017 and so much happened in 2016.  Most of the people that read this blog have attended one of my classes and I wanted to take some time to say “Thank YOU”.  I have enjoyed traveling the country and meeting so many new people.  I taught 108 classes in 54 1/2 days and spent 39 days traveling with 14 days away at functions or on the road.  In case you are wondering, that is 107.5 days (29% of the year) on the road traveling and training.  I have now trained in 33 states, only 18 to go.  The 51st one is DC, I counted that as a separate location even though it is not a “state”, but it’s not in a state, so 51 it is!

I’m looking forward to a new year with more new friends to meet and some great places to visit.  While I’m on the subject, if anyone knows offices in the states I have not trained in and would like to help me reach my 2017 year end goal of training in all 50 states.  This list of places I am looking for contacts to reach out to is here: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Utah (I will be there next week), Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.  Thank you in advance for helping by emailing or texting me with any leads.

This is a tech blog, so I can’t go without giving you a tech tip!!  Since it is the year end and soon it will be tax time now might be a good time to give you want of my favorite tracking apps for my real estate and training business.  MileIQ and a link to a referral is here: https://www.mileiq.com/invite/IIPRG.  You may not know this, but years ago for an entire year I wrote emails (should have done it as a blog!) every week on “Apps” and every four weeks I did a “Four for Fun”.  Of course I explained how it works and what it does so this is like going back to that.  Here goes!

MileIQ, it’s Free to download, but only gives you 40 free drives each month.  It is absolutely worth it to spend the $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year for this!

What does it do?  It tracks everywhere you drive.  Yes it runs in the background, but doesn’t take up too much battery or data.  It will show you a map of where you started and where you ended.  Starting mark is green and ending is red.  It’s as easy as “swiping”.  Swipe right for “business” and left for “personal”.  If you swipe slowly in either direction, you can select from custom categories in either the business or personal side.  A couple of cool things is that you can “name” a location so that you remember were you are going.  I name my listings so that I know when I’m going to a listing or showing houses.  You can also select “auto classify” when it pops up so that you don’t have keep answering the same question.  It is super smart and when you are done it shows you a “star” in an award type badge that tells you that month is complete.  It can send you email reports of either a month or year end which makes doing your taxes a breeze!!  Another option is adding multiple vehicles and adding the odometer for each vehicle as well.  I have some screen shots to show you how it works.

Monthly summary shows the amount of personal vs business drives and the year end totals show the graph of the milage driven.  You will notice that Jan is really short because I didn’t decide to use the “paid version” until February.  The nice thing is that it did remember the drives for a month, but not all the way back.  This is another reason why I’m telling you about this now.

Shortcut Your iOS Device

I was recently at Family Reunion, which is a conference for Keller Williams agents and staff to network and LEARN!!  This year I was asked to serve on a panel to share some tips and tricks.  One of the tricks I mentioned was how to create an iOS Keyboard Shortcut.  Several have asked for some directions on how to do this, so here we go.

iOS ShortcutsGo into your “Settings” and scroll down to “General” then “Keyboard”.  Once you are in the “Keyboard” area scroll down to “Shortcuts” and then click on the “+” at the top right.  The “phrase” at the top is what you want the keyboard to type for you for example your name and company (Carolyn Thompson, Keller Williams Realty Advantage).  The second item says “shortcut” and this is where you put the letters and/or numbers you want to type to make it insert (cdtkw) and don’t forget to click “save” at the top right.

iOS Shortcuts 2The cool part is that when you create the shortcut on your phone it will also translate on your MAC as an example, it added the shortcut above when I typed those letters and I had to “undo”.  You can use this for many things.  I have the shortcut above and several others.  What about a shortcut for requesting a showing or sending a list of lenders, sharing your mobile app or any phrase that you repeat on a regular basis.  Don’t make it a single word or you will end up with creating a shortcut that will replace words you are actually trying to type.

eEdge on the GO!

What is eEdge on the Go?  Put simply it is our myKW eEdge section optimized for your mobile device.  Does not matter if you are using an iPhone or Android or any other smart phone, it will WORK!! Since I’m an iPhone user, these directions and pictures are going to be for an iPhone, and other than the app you use to surf the web, they will be the same.

Start by going into your web search app, like Safari, then in the address bar, type mykw.kw.com and “go”.  This will take you to the login screen and enter your myKW login and password and type “login”.

Quick iPhone/iPad Tip: Once logged in, before you click on anything else, tap on the square with the arrow button and you will see a middle button showing “kw e” and below it says “Add to Home Screen”.  Once you tap on it, it will create an icon on your phone that all you need to do is tap on the button to get into your eEdge on the Go.

Now that you are logged in, you will see 6 squares.  If you scroll your screen up to see the bottom, that is where you can switch market centers if you need to or click on the “myKW Full Site” if you don’t want the mobile version.

myLeads: This icon shows your number of leads in the top left corner.  When you tap on it, it will take you into another screen with New Contacts, New Messages (your eEdge messages), Search Contacts and Reminders.  Below that also lists eEdge on the Go! (back to the home screen), Add Contact or Go to Full Version.  This article is not about how to use each part of the system, so we are just going over the buttons.

myContacts to Go

myContacts: This button takes you to Search Contacts.  Enter the name, status, type, group, phone number or email and then tap the “search” at the bottom right.  To go back click on the top left corner.

Contact Messages: Straight into your eEdge messages!!  No more need to log into the system on a computer to check your eEdge mail!  Just tap on one of the messages and you will have the option for “file” or “reply”.

myActionPlans Tasks: This icon will open in a new window.  It looks like the myActionPlans in your myKW, but it is also mobile optimized.  In order to go back to eEdge on the Go, you will need to tap on the bottom right button with a number in it (number of windows open). Then scroll to the left (or right) to find the window with eEdge on the Go on it.eEdge Intranet

Market Center Intranet:  If you are in a business center, you will need to switch to your main market center for this to work.  It will show you all the features of the intranet, just in a scaled down and simple version.  The pictures will not display on posts however you can tap on the link or title and it will expand.  You can not create a post from the mobile version, but you can most certainly make a comment on an existing post.  The cool part is the calendar shows at the top under the menu and are easy to read.  This one also opens in a new window, so you will have to go back to the previous to get to the main menu.

myTransactions Tasks:  Coming Soon!  When the new myTransactions 2.0 comes out, you will be able to access your myTransactions/DotLoop Account, can’t wait!!!

Every iPad needs GoodNotes!

Sometimes you don’t know you need something until after you get it! I know I typically write about Keller Williams specific items, but this one is SO worth sharing! There is an app my daughter discovered this app and got me hooked. GoodNotes is free, but the extras that come with paying for the full $4.99 version are worth it for your business.

GoodNotes IconFirst the free version of GoodNotes does almost everything the paid version does. It does just like it sounds and is a great app for taking notes. Not just any notes, but this app lets you add pictures, typed text, hand written notes and PDF’s!! You can start with an existing PDF or create a new one. Once you have started a note, you can add extra pages. The page options are ruled paper, squared paper, music paper, or plane paper. You can also select between standard portrait or landscape. It get’s better, you can add a notebook cover page with different colors!

This is great for taking notes for clients or in classes. Since you can start with a PDF or a blank page and then write on it with your finger or stylus. Oh, and if you don’t want to write the click on the page until the options come up and select the text option and type! And for those of you that want to see it larger, then it also has a box that magnifies the section you are working on or zoom in on the page. Let’s say you need to draw something out. You can do that too by clicking on the shapes button at the top and then draw the approximate shape and GoodNotes will refine the shape and make it look smooth.

One of the best parts about this app is that you can pull in a PDF and then export only the pages you want! That’s right, split the PDF’s!! You can export it to email, dropbox or another app like iCab. In case you are wondering, iCab allows you to upload your documents to a website using the “upload” option. You have to put the document you want to load into the iCab app first, but that is not hard. If you are in your email, push and hold on the document until the options appear for the apps to export it to and select iCab.

Ok, so let’s think about uses for your real estate business! What if a client sends you a large document and you only need the disclosures or a few pages to send separate? Pull the document into GoodNotes and then click on the boxes at the top left and then click the “edit” and select the pages you want to send, export, copy or print. What if you wanted to create a flyer? Add pictures, text and shapes to a blank document and then send it out to someone! What if you go to a training class and need a place to take notes? Start taking your notes, add a drawing, take a picture of something on the slide and keep all of that in one place!!

I’m not gaining anything nor am I a paid advertiser for this app, but it is a really great tool that I recommend for your business. Get organized and let me know how you use this app!

Are you Ready for the KW Mobile App?

As I’m sure you have heard, Keller Williams is coming out with an App for every agent!  Before the App is launched at the first of the year, there are some things you can do to be sure your app will work starting the day it is launched.
Here is how you make sure you are set up.  First log into your myKW.KW.com and then on the home tab click on “Agent Website Administration”.  When the new window opens go into “4.0 Add Listing/IDX Search” and then “4.1 Add IDX Search”.  In the middle of the screen you will see an option to check a box next to “YES! Set up my eAgentC IDX powered by WolfNet” and then “Sign Up”.  It will then take you to the next screen that has additional directions.  From here you just have to wait about 2 weeks for an email with a link to add to this same page.  You may be wondering how this is connected to your myKW App, well this is where the IDX pulls the listings for your clients to search.  Do you know what an IDX is?  IDX stands for Internet Data eXchange and it allows your customers to have access to search the “public” part of MLS using your connection as a REALTOR to MLS.  WolfNet is the vender partner that provides the data stream from your local MLS to Keller Williams systems.

Once you get the email from WolfNet confirming your IDX is active, it will also include a link.  That link will need to be added in the 4.1 section of the Agent Website Administration and saved.  Now you are set for the IDX portion of the myKW App and your eAgentC website IDX.

Get your Profile to 100%

The other part of making sure you are myKW App ready is to get your profile percentage to 100%.  From the home screen in your myKW.KW.com you will see a number below your name.  Below your picture is a link that says “Profile” and once you have clicked on that it will take you to the screen that shows your sections of profile.  In the 3rd column from the left under the word “My Referrals” click the “edit” link.  The top section needs to have something in each field with the accept ion of the first and last ones (Team Name and Loss Midigation Resume).  In the second section the only fields that are not required are the YouTube URL, Google+ and LinkedIn.  All of the rest need to have at least something in them.  If you do not have a Facebook or Blog, you can always put KWRI’s links in those fields.  The links for those are: Facebook: KellerWilliamsRealty, Twitter: kwri, Blog: http://blog.kw.com.  You can put any video on the YouTub link as long as you click the “share” button on the YouTube video to display on your profile.  Don’t forget to “Save” at the bottom!

That should do it, you are ready to go!
